The focus postures this week are all forward bends, which is GREAT because I have needed a lot of forward bends this week.  Forward bends calm you down; they keep you on an even keel. My husband and I are in the process of moving to Los Angeles.  We haven't moved for a while and I forgot what a wild and destabilizing process it is.  We are very excited about this new adventure and yet, even if the change is welcome the fact remains that MOVING SUCKS. The postures this week have been a good companion; they have helped me stay sane.  Hopefully they can do the same for you. ...

Yoga postures tend to have one of three effects: they heat you up, they cool you down, or they balance you out.  Postures like sirsasana (headstand), adho mukha vrksasana (handstand), and urdhva dhanurasana (upward facing bow/wheel) almost always have the effect of heating you up.  Forward folds like janu sirsasana, upavistha konasana, and janu sirsasana usually have the effect of cooling you down.  And twists such as bharadvajasana, ardha matsyendrasana, and maricyasana 3 balance you out.
